Kenya Global Service Program

Embarking on a journey to Kenya, I was enveloped in a transformative learning experience that profoundly reshaped my perspectives, particularly regarding education and empowerment in patriarchal societies. This trip was not merely a visit but an immersion into a new culture. I witnessed firsthand the formidable power and resilience of women in Kenya, navigating through societal constraints with education as their compass. The grassroots movements, primarily led by strong, indomitable women, illustrated that empowerment and change are deeply intertwined with learning and education. This was evident at WISER Girls Secondary School, where young women can rise, aspire, and lead. Simultaneously, the trip underscored a vital realization within me – that the potency of ideas transcends age and geography. Even as a high school student, I learned that I am not just a spectator but an active participant, capable of inciting change and positively impacting lives, armed with determination, empathy, and a willingness to engage in the stories and struggles of others. Thus, the journey was not merely a physical traversal of space but a profound journey inward, understanding the ripple effects of education, empowerment, and personal agency.
